Knowledge Of Quran ( Uloom-ul-Quran ) : Episode 3
Continuing further, let us embark on the topic of Naskh.
What is Naskh?
Naskh: The abrogation of an old Quranic ruling by a new command.
To be specific, Naskh comprises two elements:
Naasikh: The ruling which serves as a substitute
Mansookh: The replaced ordinance
For the proof of Naskh, refer to Surah Baqarah ( Verse no. 106 )
Quran and Hadith both entail Naskh.
Mention the types of Naskh, if any.
1) Al-Tilawah-wal-Hukm (التلاوة و الحكم): Both the recitation ( verbal ) and application are axed.
2) Al-Tilawah-doon-al-Hukm ( التلاوة دون الحكم ): This category of Naskh forbids verbal recitation. However, the ruling is still applicable.
3) Al-Hukm-doon-Al-Tilawah ( الحكم دون التلاوة): The ruling is put to an end, yet recitation is still in place.
Why Naskh used to take place?
Several reasons lay the foundation for the answer to this question.
Firstly, the Quranic ruling was revealed according to the then circumstances. Later, it might have been abrogated to fit the picture of the situation.
Secondly, Naskh, as a tool, gauged the level of faith.
Thirdly, to gradually bring into effect the Sharia `ah ( Islamic law ), Naskh was an effective measure.
There are more suitable answers not mentioned here. As one delves deep into this knowledge, Allah may disclose other reasons for him.
It must be noted:
. Naskh is possible via revelation only.
. Naskh was possible during the era of Prophet Muhammad ( P.B.U.H ) only.
