Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, we are beginning the topic of  " Ilm-ul-Tazkia & Fiqh-ul-Quloob ".  Here is a list of FAQs that supplement the introduction to this topic.

. Are there other names of "Ilm-ul-Tazkia"?

Yes, the word "Ilm-ul-Tazkia" is synonymous with "Ilm-ul-Ihsan" & "Ilm-ul-Sulook".

. Why is it termed " Fiqh-ul-Quloob"?

The roots of this knowledge lie in the ambit of heart. On the other way round, this topic primarily addresses the heart.

. What is the importance of Purging ( Tazkia)?

1) To attain faith ( Imaan ), one must acquire Ilm-ul-Tazkia.

2) Purging holds a unique ambience in Islam as:

. There is a repetition of purging in the revelation
. In a manner, revelation is centred on the topic of purging
. Several elements of revelation signal purging

3) Purging is crystal clear in the light of Seerah [ the way of life of Prophet                          Muhammad (P.B.U.H) ]

Quran describes purging as a formidable responsibility of Prophet Muhammad              (P.B.U.H) ( See verse no. 129, Al-Baqarah)

. A real-life example was the companions of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) whom he used to teach Islam. He used to Tazkia of them. Subhan Allah! This distinct the lives of Sahabas from ours and provides a clear answer to why the companions had a boosted Iman and their fondness for performing good deeds frequently.

4) Are there any consequences of Tazkiya? If so, list them.

As a case of matter, every deed brings good or bad. So is purging. If one performs it,      they could collect several benefits, examples of which are listed below:

  • Being patient in hard times
  • Staying consistent for Deen and remaining motivated against frightful desires

5) Social issues, from the domestic to the state level, angle for the absence of purging. A few, albeit representative cases include jealousy and an excessive desire for money.

 6) Winning the battle of Nafs

  •   As evident from the Surah Naziat ( see verse no. 30), the habit of purging aids in fighting against one`s Nafs and makes it easy to say no to the demands of it. Allahu Akbar!
  •  In the Surah Al-Shams, after swearing 11 times, it is discussed that one who did Tazkiya has achieved success ( Al-Falah). This also highlights the importance of Tazkiya.

. What is the reward for purging?

In the Quran ( see Surah Taha, verse no.76 ), Jannah is described as the reward/ place in the hereafter for those performing Tazkiya.

The above discussion unveils that Tazkiya is one of the prioritised duties in the Deen. Hence, we shall be consistent in doing Tazkiya frequently.
